10/12/2015 – Arts Richmond is excited to present the first piece of its “Outdoor Gallery” project.
Arts Richmond wishes to thank Richmond Community College for allowing us to be a part of this collaborative effort. It has been a positive experience for everyone involved.
We also wish to thank and acknowledge Jason Lancaster the Art Instructor who spearheaded this project and has worked diligently to see it from concept to completion and now in its “New Outdoor Gallery” Space.
Thank you to the City of Rockingham for assistance with planning. We look forward to future visual art projects.
And we wish to thank Brent Garner for providing the backdrop for that Gallery space by allowing the wall of his business to be the destination site for this outstanding work.
The Mural was the created by the RCC Art students under the direction of their Art Instructor, Jason Lancaster. The project took over an entire semester of hard work and dedication. Arts Richmond would like to acknowledge and thank those students and young adults who worked so tirelessly on this project.

The theme celebrates Richmond County, its rich natural resources, industry and heritage. Arts Richmond is dedicating this Mural to honor these students.
This Mural is not “Just a Student Project….This Mural is just simply “Art at Its Best!
It is thoughtfully planned with good design, it has structure and it has balance even on such a large scale. The Mural is 8 feet high by 24 feet wide.
This Mural is also “Art at its Best” because it is was created through the Process of Our Young Adults …working together, committing their time and talents, using their creativity and imagination, learning a new art skills, and using those skills to serve and give back to their community….. because it involves the younger generation getting involved in their community and creating Civic pride through the process of Art.
This project will also serve as a cornerstone project to help restore our community spirit and give new ideas and inspiration to what our communities “Can Be, and Can Look Like” going into the future.
Jerzye Kosinski said ” The principles of true art are not to Portray but to Evoke!”
This project certainly does that … It is Colorful and Humorous and Modern and Fun. …It Evokes a new spirit that Celebrates our County and will serve as a Gateway Piece for our downtown area.
Sometimes you have to just create what you want to be a part of….and we want to be a part of this!!! This is Arts Richmond’s first “Outdoor Gallery” Opening and we hope to have more in the future.
Arts Richmond would like to invite anyone interested to be a part of the next mural project to be placed on the exterior wall of the Arts Richmond building. Jason Lancaster will again be the lead Artist on this project.
